Residential Care Facility for the Elderly means any facility of any capacity that provides 24-hour-a-day nonmedical care and supervision to person 60 years of age or older in the state of California. Sometimes referred to as Assisted Living 16+ beds or Board and Care 4-6 beds. In order to become a certified administrator for a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly you must meet the required qualifications.

First, you must complete a Department of Social Services approved 80-Hour Initial Certification Training Program. Dates listed below.

Second, register for an exam. Within 60 days of completing the ICTP, an applicant must take and pass the Administrator Certification exam with 3 attempts.

Third, after passing the administrator certification examination, you must apply for an Administrator Certificate within thirty (30) days of being notified that you passed the examination.

Senior Community Learning is very excited to offer RCFE ICTP through our Ucampus leadership program. Ucampus specializes in the development of leaders of those who take care of the most vulnerable. All courses have been approved by California Department of Social Services.

Description: This 3-day live stream webinar engages the learner in processes for the role and responsibility of the activity programming in residential living. If you operate or work for a RCFE/ARF provider this course is designed to provide an overview of key activities information, including: resident assessment, program design, implementing activities, organization, and critique of activity plans.

• Identify the regulatory bodies and regulations specific to residential care facilities
• Recognize the role and responsibilities of the California Social Services Department
• Recognize and reflect the importance of the policy and organizational structure of an assisted living community
• Identify the role and function of the activity professional in an residential care facility based on a social model
• Define California state regulations governing assisted living communities with regards to the psychosocial wellbeing of residents, their loved ones, and the people working at the facility
• Identify the fundamentals of recruitment, training, and placement of activity support staff and volunteers

• Define maintenance and housekeeping requirements as they relate to activity programming
• Demonstrate the understanding of safety and sanitary precautions in congregate living
• Describe motor vehicle resident transport considerations and management
• Describe physical plant standards and regulations as they relate to the psychosocial aspects of life

• Discuss basic services to be provided by the activity program in a residential care facility
• Demonstrate techniques and skills that will assist a resident with special needs during activity programming and maximize the benefits of peer socialization

• Summarize end-of-life care support and programming for meaningful engagement
• Recognize regulatory requirements related to the residents’ right to make medical decisions and advance healthcare directives

• Explore proper documentation and the use of a person-centered care approach
• Identify provisions in California’s Death with Dignity Act
• Differentiate person-centered care from the traditional model of congregate living
